Music For Unitards

by Bob Boilen

In early 1982 I began writing music and collaborating with Baltimore's Impossible Theater. It was the very first music I ever wrote and came shortly after the implosion of Tiny Desk Unit. This music on this little green cassette, released toward the end of 1982, was written for Impossible Theater's City of Strangers and a dance piece I was commissioned to write for Maida Wither's Dance Construction Company. It was a fabulous work which included lasers by Rockne Krebs. What's not included on this page that was included on my original cassette release is a 25-minute piece called "Stall," that was the score for the Laser Dance. I'm still in the process of reconstructing that work. One side note, both Maida Withers dancers and Impossible Theater's performers wore white unitards, hence the name Music For Unitards.
