Just one month after we wrote, recorded and released our 14th album Ex Ivy, and all in our respective homes (Maryland, California, New York and Pennsylvania,) we wrote and recorded Thank Speak Love This Record. Being on various forms of lockdown during the early 2020 pandemic we were challenged and inspired to make new music.
My brother Steve (11/2/51 – 4/10/20) was the second son. Tall, handsome, athletic, funny and for a time, a terrific older brother. He was the daredevil, with (dreams of) cool cars and (actual) motorcycle crashes. He taught me Kung Fu and Buffalo Springfield, and when he moved away, left me his vast library of science fiction - whetting a life-long appetite for reading. He also taught me the value of acting the fool when all else fails. Seemingly born to be a fuckup, but with a heart of gold, and ready with the big heroic gesture - like wrestling our mother's little dog out of the jaws of a giant Great Dane – and on the day we buried our father no less. An Eagle Scout, a veteran, an outdoorsman and adventurer – his last big trip before the final plunge – to London and Liverpool. Shake it up baby, twist and shout. RIP. (Kevin Lay, 5/5/2020)
This is the 15th Danger Painters full-length album, the second (so far) of 2020.
