Tiny Desk Unit's first album was a live record. It wasn't supposed to be that way. We tried recording a studio record earlier in the year, but we were a live band at that point and the studio songs didn't do justice to our sound. Our friend Nick Koumoutseas recorded this album on the hottest night in D.C. in 1980. We were the opening band that night for Pere Ubu. When singer David Thomas left the stage, he left a pool of sweat on the stage rug. The band still had our original drummer Chris Thompson and our new bass player Terry Baker. It's a good representation of the band during the early days.
